Given that they have managed to create outstanding features for the other aspects of creating and managing email marketing campaigns, it is strange that the company has put no major effort into the email editor.

We believe ConvertKit really put this on the card. The simple trigger and action system is easy to use. However, one of the main problems with this is that things get a bit complicated when creating a combination of automatons.

You can create built-in, pop-up, and floating forms, as well as landing pages. The forms can be easily edited using the visual editor, and there are a handful of nice layouts to choose from.

ConvertKit’s deliverability rates have dropped dramatically in the recent tests. It is recommended to monitor them.

Not stunning, but they do the basics: open rates, clicks, and unsubscribe. There is no heat map, no e-commerce conversion tracking, or a social media report. Google Analytics is also not integrated. It’s also strange that the bounce rate is missing.

There is no main dashboard where you can get an overview of all aspects of your campaign. You can access all the different information in the respective menus. Since there is no option to create an email, you have to play around with the solution before you find that you have to choose Broadcast or Sequences from the menu.

ConvertKit does not have a spam test function, but tests e-mail in the background and mark them if necessary. There are also no design tests, so you have to use an external solution.

  4. Integrations: ConvertKit has about 90 integrations (eg Shopify, WooCommerce, SumoMe, ConvertPlug etc.). Please note that some of the “integrations” mentioned on your website must be configured manually by copying and pasting the HTML code.

However, the options for changing the design are limited, especially when compared to some competitors (e.g. GetResponse). Built-in forms and landing page reports show you visitors, subscribers, and post-conversion rate, and give you information about whether you need to make changes. And if you don’t have a website, don’t worry as ConvertKit hosts the landing page for you on your server and domain.
  6. ConvertKit Dashboard: While some may argue that ConvertKit has similar (or even the same) functionality to other solutions like MailChimp, there is generally one major difference to note. If automation, sequencing, tagging, and proper list management are possible with MailChimp and 99% of their customers don’t know how to do it. You don’t have to spend another $ 499 and spend days mastering the tool. It is easy to use and offers great sequences/targeting. It runs quickly and above all without problems. If we had to choose between MailChimp and ConvertKit from the point of view of user-friendliness and if the available money and number integrations didn’t matter, the choice would be really easy. If it’s not obvious enough, it would be ConvertKit every day. As we’ll look at in more detail later, there’s a place where ConvertKit lags behind. This is the only reason why we haven’t changed yet. The lack of a free plan is another convertKit conscious decision, as the company believes it has to pay if it wants to create successful email marketing campaigns. You get two months free if you choose to make an annual payment.

ConvertKit feels like a work in progress. There are many areas in which it absolutely understood in creating forms and landing pages, managing subscribers and creating segments, but the email editor and lack of focus on creating well-designed emails are a letdown.

The company believes that this is an intentional approach as it believes that simple email works better, but it does affect the user experience. Other email marketing solutions like Mailchimp have a much simpler email editor and allow you to create more visually appealing campaigns faster.

This approach of compromising the user experience and not serving inexperienced users who want to be up and running quickly is only underlined by the lack of a main dashboard of the software that gives users an overview of the overall performance. And the user experience should always play an important role.

If you’re just getting started, one of the things you’ll likely ask if ConvertKit is the right decision is the price. Sure, you don’t have to hide the fact that they’re more expensive than other options, but you do pay a premium.

Any company would rather pay a premium so that your emails actually get into your subscribers’ inboxes instead of getting spam and being able to configure advanced, complex, and multi-step sequences with powerful automation.

  1. ConvertKit support: what you can’t expect

One of the most notable benefits of using ConvertKit, which really has nothing to do with the performance of your product and its functionality, is its support. For reference, MailChimp doesn’t really offer much support, especially for free users, which is quite disappointing.

It was very easy to get email support when we actually contacted them in January this year. While live chat support is great, it is often not ideal for problems that can take time to investigate when you don’t have to be there. In summary, in the unlikely event that you ever encounter a problem with ConvertKit, you’re happy to know that friendly and helpful support is nothing more than an email.

Even if you don’t use ConvertKit, there are some good examples that show you some ways you can take advantage of the automation features of email marketing. The only place where ConvertKit really falls behind (at least in my eyes) is integration.

Most of the people use MailChimp to power our website since ConvertKit WooCommerce does not currently fully support how MailChimp does.

  • There are no integrations with e-commerce platforms
  • Few customization options for forms and email templates
  • The report data is limited.
  • Not ideal for managing multiple clients
  • Poor layout options: only 3 templates are offered and all are based on text. To achieve better visual results, they should offer more design options.
  • Reports have no depth: They offer the basics such as opening rates, click rates and unsubscribing. They don’t even give you the bounce rate.
  • Landing page editor: Even if you don’t have your own websites, you can create a simple landing page with this option. This can be very handy for social media campaigns.
  • Management of flexible user subscription: The tagging system makes it easy to add and remove subscribers to workflows.
  • Responsive Support: The support team is helpful and they usually respond very quickly.

For this reason, we would recommend that you use Convertkit if:

The fact that it only offers 3 email templates (and all text-based ones) means that you are very limited. There is no way to select or even upload your own email templates. If this is important to you, we recommend a more flexible design option such as MailerLite or MailChimp.

Although ConvertKit is aimed at creatives and bloggers, its prices seem more suitable for large companies. There are definitely cheaper tools with similar (and even better) features.

As with any tool, ConvertKit is not the right choice for everyone. So we want to find out exactly who this email marketing tool is.

  1. Budget blogger

If you’re looking for email marketing on a tight budget, ConvertKit isn’t the best option.

Now it’s important to remember that ConvertKit is highly tag-based, which means that subscribers are only counted once in terms of “list size”. This does not apply to other tools such as Aweber and Mail chimp.

In fact, Get Response is the only tool that stands out in terms of pricing. Get Response does have some decent tagging and automation features, but it’s not necessarily better.

If you’re really starting on a tight budget, you’re probably better off with tools like Drip and MailChimp that offer free plans.

  1. Beginner blogger

As mentioned in this review, ConvertKit is not only aimed at bloggers, but is also ridiculously easy to use.

In fact, almost all of the negative aspects we pointed out about this tool are related to the lack of advanced options, Options that, as a beginner, only make the tool more bloated and difficult than it really should be.

That’s why you can’t go wrong with ConvertKit if you’re a beginner and just want to deal with marketing automation and your budget is a little more forgiving.

ConvertKit claims to be as powerful as Infusionsoft but as easy to use as Mailchimp.

Well, we would say that’s only half the truth. It doesn’t take long for it to become clear that ConvertKit doesn’t have certain areas that some advanced marketers would miss a lot.

Everything from detailed reports on comprehensive A / B tests, triggers and advanced automation actions to professionally designed templates with ConvertKit you simply don’t get any of it. Of course, not all of these things matter to everyone in this group, and some aspects, like bloated email templates, can even affect your deliverability and ultimately your business.

In any case, we would like to at least inform you about these restrictions so that you can make a more informed decision about whether ConvertKit is suitable for you.

If these things are a problem for you, it’s probably better with something like ActiveCampaign or Drip.

And then you have to decide what kind of email marketing actions you want to do. ConvertKit is ideal for simple sequences and automation. Drip would be my recommendation if you want to do more advanced and complex automation where multiple things happen at the same time.

Ultimately, we believe ConvertKit is a dream come true for people who are just starting email marketing and are starting to gain a foothold in their online business.

From today’s perspective, there are too many restrictions in our opinion to make ConvertKit a viable option for me, but I hope that after reading this review, you will have a pretty good idea if it is not the same for you.

According to people, they have started with MailChimp’s free plan and stuck with it until they reached about more or less 10,000 subscribers. Then they became increasingly frustrated by setting up multiple content updates for their blog posts and simple automation sequences, and decided to switch to ConvertKit.

Most of them stayed with ConvertKit until they reached about 30,000 subscribers and then switched back to Drip. They now have around 50,000 subscribers and are very happy with Drip and its advanced automation features.

MailChimp has been great from the start, especially if you have little money. With MailChimp you can do a lot of things that not everyone knows, but that are easy to do once you know they exist.

ConvertKit eliminates a lot of headaches and is a great option if you can reach a few thousand subscribers or have some money to invest. Especially for bloggers, there are several areas where ConvertKit works quite well. For example, the support is fast, friendly and effective, we cannot complain here.

Most people also liked the flexibility of managing subscribers through their tagging system. This is certainly something bloggers (and digital marketing specialists) can get the most out of while directing communication towards their audience.

ConvertKit comes with a landing page editor that lets you collect subscribers even when you don’t have a website, ideal for social media campaigns. However, we have to say that most people are somewhat disappointed with the email designs available.

Other tools like GetResponse or MailerLite offer much more here and are even cheaper by the way.

In addition, ConvertKit is quite expensive, especially given the relatively basic features it offers. We therefore strongly recommend that you consider some alternatives before choosing them as your next email marketing platform.  

ConvertKit is not suitable for people who want to create visually appealing emails. Your email editor is very simple and has only a few templates, none of which are so attractive from a design perspective. According to ConvertKit, this is a deliberate approach because you think that simpler emails work better. It is an unusual approach.

The problem is that the user experience will be affected if much less care and attention is given to a function. The ConvertKit email editor is more complicated to learn and use than some of its competitors, and it takes longer to create emails.

It also lacks many of the important features you need to ensure that the simple emails you send continue to work properly and are free from typing errors. There is no spell check or link option, and you cannot preview emails based on the device or email client. Many people have been using ConvertKit for some time and are constantly recommending it to both developers and companies that need automation and powerful sequences.

Overall, we think it’s really easy to understand why so many sellers and developers love ConvertKit.

It’s designed to make everything the way it should be, especially for people who don’t waste their time on technical things and want to focus on more important things like producing content or managing their business.
